The Rules-maker

Why?

The aim of this exercise is to envision the future of possible solutions, and so we want to encourage the students to act in a creative and explorative manner. The Rules-maker is a method that supports such behaviour as it aims at establishing the right environment around the explorative nature of idea generation.

How?

The teacher creates a set of rules at the beginning of the idea generation session, so as to guide the appropriate behaviour for the explorative nature of the divergent phase. These rules are clearly stated on a power point slide or on a blackboard (see example below)

Tips

The method can also be applied to other learning areas of the DesignUni model by modifying the rules to fit the purpose of each area.
